Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4G

Who does not know the Iphone and Nokia, both of which are brand names that continue to compete in seizing the high-end smartphone market. When Oliver Kreylos, a computer scientist, heard about the capabilities of Microsoft’s new Kinect gaming device, he couldn’t wait to get his hands on it. “I dropped everything, rode my bike to the closest game store and bought one,” he said.

Philipp Robbel combined an iRobot device and the new Microsoft controller that can recognize gestures. He calls it the KinectBot.

But he had no interest in playing video games with the Kinect, which is meant to be plugged into an Xbox and allows players to control the action onscreen by moving their bodies.

Mr. Kreylos, who specializes in virtual reality and 3-D graphics, had just learned that he could download some software and use the device with his computer instead. He was soon using it to create “holographic” video images that can be rotated on a computer screen. A video he postedon YouTubelast week caused jaws to drop and has been watched 1.3 million times.

Mr. Kreylos is part of a crowd of programmers, roboticists and tinkerers who are getting the Kinect to do things it was not really meant to do. The attraction of the device is that it is outfitted with cameras, sensors and software that let it detect movement, depth, and the shape and position of the human body.

Companies respond to this kind of experimentation with their products in different ways — and Microsoft has had two very different responses since the Kinect was released on Nov. 4. It initially made vague threats about working with law enforcement to stop “product tampering.” But by last week, it was embracing the benevolent hackers.

“Anytime there is engagement and excitement around our technology, we see that as a good thing,” said Craig Davidson, senior director for Xbox Live at Microsoft. “It’s naïve to think that any new technology that comes out won’t have a group that tinkers with it.”

Microsoft and other companies would be wise to keep an eye on this kind of outside innovation and consider wrapping some of the creative advances into future products, said Loren Johnson, an analyst at Frost & Sullivan who follows digital media and consumer electronics.

“These adaptations could be a great benefit to their own bottom line,” he said. “It’s a trend that is undeniable, using public resources to improve on products, whether it be the Kinect or anything else.”

Microsoft invested hundreds of millions of dollarsin Kinect in the hopes of wooing a broader audience of gamers, like those who enjoy using the motion-based controllers of the Nintendo Wii.

Word of the technical sophistication and low price of the device spread quickly in tech circles.

Building a device with the Kinect’s capabilities would require “thousands of dollars, multiple Ph.D.’s and dozens of months,” said Limor Fried, an engineer and founder of Adafruit Industries

, a store in New York that sells supplies for experimental hardware projects. “You can just buy this at any game store for $150.”

On the day the Kinect went on sale, Ms. Fried and Phillip Torrone, a designer and senior editor of Make magazine, which features do-it-yourself technology projects, announced a $3,000 cash bounty for anyone who created and released free software allowing the Kinect to be used with a computer instead of an Xbox.

Microsoft quickly gave the contest a thumbs-down. In an interviewwith CNet News, a company representative said that it did not “condone the modification of its products” and that it would “work closely with law enforcement and product safety groups to keep Kinect tamper-resistant.”

That is not much different from the approach taken by Apple, which has released software upgrades for its iPhoneoperating system in an effort to block any unsanctioned hacks or software running on its devices.

But other companies whose products have been popular targets for tinkering have actively encouraged it. One example is iRobot, the company that makes the Roomba, a small robotic vacuum cleaner. That product was so popular with robotics enthusiasts that the company began selling the iRobot Create, a programmable machine with no dusting capabilities.

Mr. Davidson said Microsoft now had no concerns about the Kinect-hacking fan club, but he said the company would be monitoring developments. A modification that compromises the Xbox system, violates the company’s terms of service or “degrades the experience for everyone is not something we want,” he said

Other creative uses of the Kinect involve drawing 3-D doodles in the airand then rotating them with a nudge of the hand, and manipulating colorful animated puppets on a computer screen. Most, if not all, of the prototypes were built using the open-source code released as a result of the contest sponsored by Ms. Fried and Mr. Torrone, which was won by Hector Martin, a 20-year-old engineering student in Spain.

The KinectBot, cobbled together in a weekend by Philipp Robbel, a Ph.D. candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, combines the Kinect and an iRobot Create. It uses the Kinect’s sensors to detect humans, respond to gesture and voice commands, and generate 3-D maps of what it is seeing as it rolls through a room.

Mr. Robbel said the KinectBot offered a small glimpse into the future of machines that could aid in the search for survivors after a natural disaster.

“This is only the tip of the iceberg,” he said of the wave of Kinect experimentation. “We are going to see an exponential number of videos and tests over the coming weeks and months as more people get their hands on this device.”

Toying around with the Kinect could go beyond being a weekend hobby. It could potentially lead to a job. In late 2007, Johnny Lee, then a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon, was so taken by the Wii that he rigged a system that would allow it to track his head movements and adjust the screen perspective accordingly.

Cellular Phone are some sort of priority, even when you are in a meeting with the unit off. Basically we are generally so accustomed to the employment of cell phones that they have become part among us. But we ponder, what makes these so important, almost just like a basic necessity, especially because 30 to 25 prohibited the concept of mobile phones was not perhaps there?

The resolution is simple. The luxury spoiled all of us. Biotechnology in one form or another has flourished since prehistoric times. When the first human beings realized that they could plant their own crops and breed their own animals, they learned to use biotechnology. The discovery that fruit juices fermented into wine, or that milk could be converted into cheese or yogurt, or that beer could be made by fermenting solutions of malt and hops began the study of biotechnology. When the first bakers found that they could make a soft, spongy bread rather than a firm, thin cracker, they were acting as fledgling biotechnologists. The first animal breeders, realizing that different physical traits could be either magnified or lost by mating appropriate pairs of animals, engaged in the manipulations of biotechnology.

What then is biotechnology? The term brings to mind many different things. Some think of developing new types of animals. Others dream of almost unlimited sources of human therapeutic drugs. Still others envision the possibility of growing crops that are more nutritious and naturally pest-resistant to feed a rapidly growing world population. This question elicits almost as many first-thought responses as there are people to whom the question can be posed.

In its purest form, the term "biotechnology" refers to the use of living organisms or their products to modify human health and the human environment. Prehistoric biotechnologists did this as they used yeast cells to raise bread dough and to ferment alcoholic beverages, and bacterial cells to make cheeses and yogurts and as they bred their strong, productive animals to make even stronger and more productive offspring.

Throughout human history, we have learned a great deal about the different organisms that our ancestors used so effectively. The marked increase in our understanding of these organisms and their cell products gains us the ability to control the many functions of various cells and organisms. Using the techniques of gene splicing and technology, we can now actually combine the genetic elements of two or more living cells. Functioning lengths of DNA can be taken from one organism and placed into the cells of another organism. As a result, for example, we can cause bacterial cells to produce human molecules. Cows can produce more milk for the same amount of feed. And we can synthesize therapeutic molecules that have never before existed.

Galaksi Bima Sakti Terancam ditabrak Awan Raksasa

Gumpalan awan raksasa yang mengandung gas hidrogen dalam volume sangat besar tengah melesat mendekati piringan Galaksi
Bima Sakti, tempat tata surya kita berada. Tabrakan dahsyat yang diperkirakan terjadi antara 20-40 juta tahun lagi akan menghasilkan kembang api spektakuler di langit. Objek tersebut diberi nama Awan Smith, diambil dari nama Gail Smith, seorang astronom AS yang mendeteksinya pertama kali pada tahun 1963 saat meneliti di Universitas Leiden, Belanda. Sejak ditemukan, para astronom masih berdebat apakah awan tersebut benar-benar mendekati galaksi Bimasakti atau menjauhinya. Rekaman data yang ada selama ini masih terbatas dan tidak jelas apakah objek tersebut bagian dari kabut Bimasakti atau masih bergerak ke arahnya. Sejauh ini, para peneliti hanya mendeteksi gas dan tidak ada satupun bintang di dalamnya. Satu-satunya cara melihtanya adlah dengan teleskop radio karena gas dingin tidak memancarkan cahaya, tetapi memantulkan gelombang radio. Jika dilihat dari Bumi, lebar gumpalan awan tersebut sebanding dengan 30 kali lebar Bulan. Dari kepala ke ujung ekornya cukup untuk menyelimuti rasi bintang Orion. Hasil pengamatan baru menggunakan teleskop radio terkendali paling besar di dunia, Teleskop Green Bank (GBT) di Virginia Barat, AS, menunjukkan bahwa objek tersebut bergerak ke arah galaksi Bimasakti. Bahkan, seperti dilaporkan gabungan tim astronom dari Observatorium Astronomi Radio Nasional AS (NRAO) dan Universitas Winconsin Whitewater dalam pertemuan Masyarakat Astronomi Amerika ke-211 di Austin, Texas baru-baru ini, gaya dorongnya telah menyentuh kabut Bimasakti. "Jika tabrakan terjadi, hal tersebut akan memicu lahirnya formasi bintang-bintang baru. Akan banyak bintang raksasa yang terbentuk, berumur pendek, dan meledak sebagai supernova yang memancarkan cahaya menyilaukan," ujar Ketua tim peneliti, DR. Felix Lockman, dari NRAO. Sebab, Awan Smith membawa energi sangat besar berupa gas hidrogen yang cukup untuk membentuk jutaan bintang seukuran Matahari. Awan Smith merupakan gumpalan gas yang berukuran panjang mencapai 11.000 tahun cahaya dan lebar 2.500 tahun cahaya. Objek tersebut saat ini berada 40.000 tahun cahaya dari Bumi dan 8.000 tahun cahaya dari piringan Bimasakti. Objek yang pantas disebut kabut monster di ruang kosmos ini bergerak dengan kecepatan 240 kilometer perdetik dan diperkirakan menabrak piringan galaksi Bimasakti dengan kemiringan 45 derajat. Tabrakan akan terjadi di pinggir piringan Bimasakti yang jarak ke pusatnya hampir sama dengan jarak tata surya kita ke pusat galaksi. Namun, posisinya jauh dari tata surya kita, diperkirakan berjarak 90 derajat terhadap pusat piringan. "Kami tidak tahu dari mana asalnya, apalagi orbitnya membingungkan, namun kami katakan bahwa ia mulai berinteraksi dengan bagian terluar Bimasakti," tandas Lockman.

Batik Indonesia

Batik (at
au kata Batik) berasal dari bahasa Jawa "amba" yang berarti menulis dan "titik". Kata batik merujuk pada kain dengan corak yang dihasilkan oleh bahan "malam" (wax) yang diaplikasikan ke atas kain, sehingga menahan masuknya bahan pewarna (dye), atau dalam Bahasa Inggrisnya "wax-resist dyeing".
Batik adalah kerajinan yang memiliki nilai seni tinggi dan telah menjadi bagian dari budaya Indonesia (khususnya Jawa) sejak lama. Perempuan-perempuan Jawa di masa lampau menjadikan keterampilan mereka dalam membatik sebagai mata pencaharian, sehingga di masa lalu pekerjaan membatik adalah pekerjaan eksklusif perempuan sampai ditemukannya "Batik Cap" yang memungkinkan masuknya laki-laki ke dalam bidang ini. Ada beberapa pengecualian bagi fenomena ini, yaitu batik pesisir yang memiliki garis maskulin seperti yang bisa dilihat pada corak "Mega Mendung", dimana di beberapa daerah pesisir pekerjaan membatik adalah lazim bagi kaum lelaki.
Ragam corak dan warna Batik dipengaruhi oleh berbagai pengaruh asing. Awalnya, batik memiliki ragam corak dan warna yang terbatas, dan beberapa corak hanya boleh dipakai oleh kalangan tertentu. Namun batik pesisir menyerap berbagai pengaruh luar, seperti para pedagang asing dan juga pada akhirnya, para penjajah. Warna-warna cerah seperti merah dipopulerkan oleh orang Tionghoa, yang juga mempopulerkan corak phoenix. Bangsa penjajah Eropa juga mengambil minat kepada batik, dan hasilnya adalah corak bebungaan yang sebelumnya tidak dikenal (seperti bunga tulip) dan juga benda-benda yang dibawa oleh penjajah (gedung atau kereta kuda), termasuk juga warna-warna kesukaan mereka seperti warna biru. Batik tradisonal tetap mempertahankan coraknya, dan masih dipakai dalam upacara-upacara adat, karena biasanya masing-masing corak memiliki perlambangan masing-masing.
Teknik membatik telah dikenal sejak ribuan tahun yang silam. Tidak ada keterangan sejarah yang cukup jelas tentang asal usul batik. Ada yang menduga teknik ini berasal dari bangsa
Sumeria, kemudian dikembangkan di Jawa setelah dibawa oleh para pedagang India. Saat ini batik bisa ditemukan di banyak negara seperti Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, dan Iran. Selain di Asia, batik juga sangat populer di beberapa negara di benua Afrika. Walaupun demikian, batik yang sangat terkenal di dunia adalah batik yang berasal dari Indonesia, terutama dari Jawa.
Tradisi membatik pada mulanya merupakan tradisi yang turun temurun, sehingga kadang kala suatu motif dapat dikenali berasal dari batik keluarga tertentu. Beberapa motif batik dapat menunjukkan status seseorang. Bahkan sampai saat ini, beberapa motif batik tadisional hanya dipakai oleh keluarga
keraton Yogyakarta dan Surakarta.
Batik merupakan warisan nenek moyang Indonesia ( Jawa ) yang sampai saat ini masih ada. Batik juga pertama kali diperkenalkan kepada dunia oleh Presiden Soeharto, yang pada waktu itu memakai batik pada Konferensi PBB.

Cara pembuatan
Semula batik dibuat di atas bahan dengan warna putih yang terbuat dari
kapas yang dinamakan kain poliester, rayon dan bahan sintetis lainnya. Motif batik dibentuk dengan cairan lilin dengan menmori. Dewasa ini batik juga dibuat di atas bahan lain seperti sutera, ggunakan alat yang dinamakan canting untuk motif halus, atau kuas untuk motif berukuran besar, sehingga cairan lilin meresap ke dalam serat kain. Kain yang telah dilukis dengan lilin kemudian dicelup dengan warna yang diinginkan, biasanya dimulai dari warna-warna muda. Pencelupan kemudian dilakukan untuk motif lain dengan warna lebih tua atau gelap. Setelah beberapa kali proses pewarnaan, kain yang telah dibatik dicelupkan ke dalam bahan kimia untuk melarutkan lilin.
Jenis batik
Batik tulis adalah kain yang dihias dengan teksture dan corak batik menggunakan tangan. Pembuatan batik jenis ini memakan waktu kurang lebih 2-3 bulan.
Batik cap adalah kain yang dihias dengan teksture dan corak batik yang dibentuk dengan cap ( biasanya terbuat dari
tembaga). Proses pembuatan batik jenis ini membutuhkan waktu kurang lebih 2-3 hari.

Asal Usul Bulan

Temen-temen mau tau gak gmna sih bulan itu bisa kebentuk ??
menurut buku yang aku baca sih, asal - usul bulan tidak diketahui secara pasti, tetapi ilmuan menemukan bukti besar bahwa Bulan berasal dari tubrukan bumi dengan planet kecil yang bernama theira sekitar 3 milyar tahun yang lalu, dan menghasilkan debu yang berjumlah sangat banyak dan mengorbit di sekeliling bumi dan akhirnya debu mengumpul menjadi bulan. Pada awalnya jarak bulan pada pertama kali hanya sekitar 30.000 mil atau 15 kali lebih dekat dari jarak Bulan dengan Bumi sekarang. Dari hasil penelitian Bulan menjauh sekitar 3,8 cm per tahunnya.
wah, Allah memang maha besar ya !!

BIOTEKNOLOGI

Bioteknologi adalah penggunaan biokimia, mikrobiologi, dan rekayasa genetika secara terpadu, untuk menghasilkan barang atau lainnya bagi kepentingan manusia.

Biokimia mempelajari struktur kimiawi organisme. Rekayasa genetika adalah aplikasi genetik dengan mentransplantasi gen dari satu organisme ke organisme lain.

Ciri utama bioteknologi:

1. Adanya aBen biologi berupa mikroorganisme, tumbuhan atau hewan
2. Adanya pendayagunsan secara teknologi dan industri
3. Produk yang dihasilkan adalah hasil ekstraksi dan pemurnian

Perkembangan bioteknologi :

1.

Era bioteknologi generasi pertama Þ bioteknologi sederhana.
Penggunaan mikroba masih secara tradisional, dalam produksi makanan dan tanaman serta pengawetan makanan.

Contoh:
pembuatan tempe, tape, cuka, dan lain-lain.

Era bioteknologi generasi kedua.
Proses berlangsung dalam keadaan tidak steril.

Contoh:
a. produksi bahan kimia: aseton, asam sitrat
b. pengolahan air limbah
c. pembuatan kompos

3.

Era bioteknologi generasi ketiga.
Proses dalam kondisi steril.

Contoh:
produksi antibiotik dan hormon

4.

Tokoh PahLawan Favorit Gue

K.H. ZAENAL MUSTOFA yang dilahirkan pada tahun 1899 di Kampung Bageur, Desa Cimerah (sekarang bernama Desa Sukarapih), Kecamatan Singaparna, Kabupaten Tasikmalaya, sejak tahun 1927 mendirikan Pesantren Sukamanah. Kiai yang menjadi wakil ketua NU Kabupaten Tasikmalaya ini, dalam setiap dakwahnya, selalu menyerang kebijakan-kebijakan politik kolonial Belanda dengan kata-kata yang pedas. Oleh karena mata-mata penjajah ada di mana-mana, akibatnya, kiai yang telah belajar di berbagai pesantren selama 17 tahun ini sering mendapat peringatan. Kadang-kadang pidatonya dilarang untuk dilanjutkan, apabila ia tengah mengupas kekejaman serta kepalsuan politik kolonial Belanda.

Tanggal 17 November 1941, K.H. Zaenal Mustofa, bersama Kiai Rukhiyat (dari Pesantren Cipasung), Haji Syirod, dan Hambali Syafei ditangkap Belanda dengan tuduhan telah menghasut rakyat, untuk memberontak terhadap pemerintah Hindia Belanda. Mereka dipenjarakan di Tasikmalaya selama satu hari, kemudian dipindahkan ke penjara Sukamiskin di Bandung.

Setelah dibebaskan, K.H. Zaenal Mustofa tidak berubah. Kembali ia berdakwah yang isinya jelas-jelas menentang penjajah. Pada akhir bulan Februari 1942, ia dan Kiai Rukhiyat kembali ditangkap dan ditahan di penjara Ciamis. Kedua ulama ini menghadapi tuduhan yang sama dengan penangkapannya yang pertama.

Pada tanggal 8 Maret 1942 kekuasaan Hindia Belanda berakhir dan Indonesia diduduki Pemerintah Militer Jepang. Oleh penjajah yang baru ini, K.H. Zaenal Mustofa dibebaskan dari penjara, dengan harapan ia akan mau membantu Jepang dalam mewujudkan ambisi fasisnya, yaitu menciptakan Lingkungan Kemakmuran Bersama Asia Timur Raya. Akan tetapi, apa yang menjadi harapan Jepang tidak pernah terwujud, karena K.H Zaenal Mustofa dengan tegas menolak. Bahkan kepada para santrinya, ia memperingatkan bahwa fasisme Jepang itu lebih berbahaya dari imperialisme Belanda.

Suatu ketika, semua alim ulama Singaparna harus berkumpul di alun-alun dan semua diwajibkan menghormat (seikerei) ke arah Tokyo. Di bawah todongan senjata, semua ulama terpaksa melakukan perintah itu, hanya K.H. Zaenal Mustofa yang tetap membangkang. Bahkan, ia berkata kepada Kiai Rukhiyat yang hadir pada waktu itu bahwa perbuatan tersebut musyrik. Kepada para santri dan pengikutnya, ia juga mengatakan, lebih baik mati ketimbang menuruti perintah Jepang.

Tindakan pemerintah pendudukan Jepang yang juga sangat memberatkan rakyat adalah, penerapan politik beras atau kewajiban menyerahkan beras kepada Jepang yang sangat merugikan rakyat. Rakyat kelaparan. Bahkan banyak yang menderita busung lapar. Selain itu, banyak kaum wanita ditipu. Mereka dijanjikan akan disekolahkan di Tokyo sehingga banyak yang mendaftarkan diri, ternyata mereka dikirim ke daerah-daerah pertempuran seperti Birma dan Malaya dan dijadikan sebagai wanita penghibur tentara-tentara Jepang (jugun ianfu).

Akhirnya, K.H. Zaenal Mustofa memutuskan untuk melakukan perlawanan terbuka terhadap kekejaman fasisme Jepang. Bersama para santrinya ia merencanakan suatu gerakan yang akan dilakukan pada tanggal 25 Februari 1944 (1 Maulud 1363 H). Mula-mula ia akan menculik para pembesar Jepang di Tasikmalaya, kemudian melakukan sabotase, memutuskan kawat-kawat telefon sehingga militer Jepang tidak dapat berkomunikasi, dan terakhir, membebaskan tahanan-tahanan politik.

Untuk melaksanakan rencana ini, K.H. Zaenal Mustofa meminta para santrinya mempersiapkan persenjataan berupa bambu runcing dan golok yang terbuat dari bambu, serta berlatih pencak silat. Kiai juga memberikan latihan spiritual (tarekat) seperti mengurangi makan, tidur, dan membaca wirid-wirid untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Allah SWT.

Persiapan para santri ini tercium Jepang. Segera mereka mengirim camat Singaparna disertai 11 orang staf dan dikawal oleh beberapa anggota polisi untuk melakukan penangkapan. Usaha ini tidak berhasil. Mereka malah ditahan di rumah K.H. Zaenal Mustofa. Keesokan harinya, pukul 8 pagi tanggal 25 Februari 1944, mereka dilepaskan.

Tiba-tiba, sekitar pukul 13.00, datang empat orang opsir Jepang meminta agar K.H. Zaenal Mustofa menghadap pemerintah Jepang di Tasikmalaya. Perintah tersebut ditolak tegas sehingga terjadilah keributan. Hasilnya, keempat opsir itu tewas dan salah seorang santri yang bernama Nur menjadi korban, karena terkena tembakan salah seorang opsir Jepang tersebut. Setelah kejadian tersebut, sore harinya sekitar pukul 16.00 datang beberapa buah truk mendekati garis depan pertahanan Sukamanah. Suara takbir mulai terdengar, pasukan Sukamanah sangat terkejut, setelah tampak dengan jelas bahwa yang berhadapan dengan mereka adalah bangsa sendiri. Rupanya Jepang telah mempergunakan taktik adu domba. Maka terjadilah apa yang dikisahkan pada awal tulisan ini.

Perlu dijelaskan pula bahwa sehari setelah peristiwa itu, antara 700-900 orang ditangkap dan dimasukkan ke dalam penjara di Tasikmalaya. Yang sangat penting adalah instruksi rahasia dari K.H. Zaenal Mustofa kepada para santri dan seluruh pengikutnya yang ditahan, yaitu agar tidak mengaku terlibat dalam pertempuran melawan Jepang, termasuk dalam kematian para opsir Jepang, dan pertanggungjawaban tentang pemberontakan Sukamanah dipikul sepenuhnya oleh K.H. Zaenal Mustofa.

Akibatnya memang berat. Sebanyak 23 orang yang dianggap bersalah, termasuk K.H. Zaenal Mustofa, dibawa ke Jakarta untuk diadili. Namun mereka hilang tak tentu rimbanya. Kemungkinan besar mereka dibunuh. Korban lainnya, seperti telah disebutkan di atas dan sekitar 600-an orang dilepas, karena dianggap tidak terlibat.
